BEST FOREIGN DOCUMENTARY, DIRECTED BY HRISTO SHOPOV.

"Every dog has its history, it is our mission to make these stories known and shared at the Equus Film & Arts Fest through films, art and literature”. With this beautiful message, the Equus Film & Art Fest is presented, an event that takes place annually and in which the different creative efforts of those who, through art in their rich and diverse representations, pay homage to the animals, are highlighted and rewarded. The films that are presented annually try to report unacceptable situations in which certain animals are found, as well as to encourage adapting the cities in which we live, so that they are a more appropriate place for animals (the year 2019, especially dedicated to dogs and horses).

The documentary film "SECOND CHANCE", directed by Hristo Shopov, was awarded in the 2019 edition (December 5-8) of the Equus Film & Art Fest as the best foreign documentary film.

"SECOND CHANCE“ is a totally non-profit documentary that explains to people their commitment or indifference facing the world which we live in, their attitude towards animals, the responsibility of their owners and the problem that stray dogs represent. The award-winning work focuses on the “Animal Help Mezdra” dog shelter, a place where, as if it were a miracle in the face of the adversities and problems faced by the people in charge of this shelter, a considerable number of dogs have their home, food, vaccines and affection thanks to the efforts and work totally disinterested of a small group of animal lovers and, especially, of the dogs.

Congratulations to Hristo Shopov, as director of "SECOND CHANCE", and to all who made possible its shooting.

All donations are intended exclusively for the maintenance of the " Animal Help Mezdra" shelter. Collaborate!

The play "SAME TIME, ANOTHER YEAR" is one more co-project with the participation of Hristo Shopov and Lilia Maravilia. Their masterful performance conquered the theatre’s audience during the first part of the production - "Same time, Next year" - a play based on the scenario of the brilliant playwright Bernard Slade.

Crowded auditoriums, with more than 100 performances, the wild applause and the broad media response, motivated us to go for the natural dramaturgical continuation of the play - "SAME TIME, ANOTHER YEAR". The actors continue with their prominent creative symbiosis in order to reveal throughout their characters, George and Doris, the secrets of a touching love, unbowed by any life circumstances!

"SAME TIME, ANOTHER YEAR" is a play that paints a story with the palette of all human emotions and states. A sensual and entertaining dialogue about the inevitable wandering between the comfortable self-deception and the sobering truths. At that point of life, in which you feel the need to reevaluate the missed opportunities and to indulge in unfulfilled ideas, together with someone who loves and supports you! For those moments in which you hurry to cross the desert of the unreceived answers and climb your personal Everest.

After the absolute success of the premiere of the play "ALL OR NOTHING" on April 7, 2017, written and directed by Liza Shopova and starring Hristo Shopov, Lilia Maravilla and Irini Jambonas, it became part of the National Tour for 2020 of Hristo Shopov together with "Same time, Next year ".

“ALL OR NOTHING” will be performed in different cities. This is a play that is worth seeing not only because of the impressive acting, but also because of the story that not only entertains but also conquers by an attractive combination of feelings, values and perceptions of friendship and love.

"ALL OR NOTHING" discovers the relationships between close friends, with their fates intertwined in an unusual way trying to preserve their intimacy and also their sympathy, regardless of life’s ups and downs. The spectacle is full of comical dialouges, some very fun, although also about dramatic revelations from which feelings and charming and original moments blossom. SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR: NATIONAL TOUR CONTINUES...

Hristo Shopov, for fifth consecutive year, continues his national tour with the piece titled “SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR” . This theatrical production written in 1975 by Bernard Slade, won in its time an uncountable number of awards and has been performed more than 1400 on Broadway.

This will also sound familiar to the Bulgarian audience as there have been several memorable performances of this piece in the country.

Now, Hristo Shopov and Lilia Maravilia are faced with the challenge of bringing to life the characters George and Doris. The two clearly talented actors with a more than respectable career behind them are performing this piece for the first time in other cities besides Sofia. Their masterful interpretation of the story, which is seemingly trivial, will without a doubt excite the audience when they discover the passionate adventure which runs through the profound labyrinth of the human soul.

"SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR" tells the beautiful story of a man (Hristo Shopov) and woman (Lilia Maravilia) who meet by chance at a romantic inn over dinner. Although both are married to others, they find themselves in the same bed the next morning questioning how this could have happened.

They agree to meet once a year to rekindle the sparks they experience at their first meeting, despite the fact that both are happily married.

"SECOND CHANCE": NONPROFIT FILM DIRECTED BY HRISTO SHOPOV

"SECOND CHANCE" is a documentary directed by Hristo Shopov with entirely charity purpose that tells the story of people, their busyness and indifference to the world we live in, their attitude towards animals, the responsibility of having home dogs, and the problem of the homeless dogs.

The project supporting Animal Help Mezdra was carried out thanks to Pavel Georgiev and Rossen Pavlov (sound on set), Amanda Sánchez (editting) and Svetlin Kuslev (music).

“Friends, yesterday something extraordinary and incredible happened to us: We met an actor and a wonderful person. Hristo Shopov, in the rain, visited our shelter in Mezdra yesterday“. This is what some days ago wrote “Animal Help Mezdra” in Facebook announcing that this great actor has decided to help with their noble cause.

“I learned about the existence of the shelter from my producer Lilia Grancharova. She told me that there was some tension between the mayor of the town, Genadi Sabkov, and a man, Stanislav Marinski, who together with his girlfriend are caring after one hundred and twenty homeless dogs. And they do this without any interests, without having any king of benefit in return”, says Hristo Shopov.

He himself for years has been concerned about pets and together with his family has always taken care of a dog or dogs. For this reason, he decided to intervene in order to mediate between both parties. “In that rainy day, I had an encounter with the mayor, during which I noted signs of love for dogs”, says the actor.

And so, he took a decision to castrate these dogs, provide them with adequate shelter and with a veterinarian next week- Dr. Antov will visit Mezdra to do the job.

“I won’t be able to be present because of my performances, but I will go later to see how the matter is going. There is already a bank account in the Facebook page of the shelter and all interested people can help them”, says Shopov.

Hristo Shopov was impressed by the dedication of Stanislav when he understood that every day after his work he goes to the shelter and is warmly received by the hugs of a hundred and twenty dogs. “It is worth doing a movie about him, so that people can see what he does with all his heart. I even start considering this idea”, explains Shopov.

Hristo Shopov currently is working on the shooting of the movie “Southern Wind” („Южен вятър”), in addition to starring in theatre plays as “All or Nothing” („Всичко или нищо”), ”Same Time, Next Year” („Догодина по същото време”) and “The Man from Earth” („Човек от земята“).

"STAND BY": A FILM DIRECTED BY HRISTO SHOPOV

For the first time, actor Hristo Shopov swaps role in the shooting of a film, by getting behind the camera and directing the film entitled ‘STAND BY’.

Hristo is also producer and scriptwriter of this film that takes the form of a documentary intensely dedicated to a sport which is thrilling but not well-known in Bulgaria, called IPSC, or ‘Dinamichna Strelva” in Bulgarian.

With this documentary-film, the viewer learns of all types of issues that are involved in this type of shooting sport, such as what the sport consists of, training, who can practice it, rules, the culture of respect and responsibility towards firearms, its practice in Bulgaria, etc.

IPSC earned official recognition as a sport in our country in 2005 and has been one of the biggest growing types of sport here in recent years. Proof of that are the champions (of both sexes) that we have in official competitions at national and international level.
